Accomplishments

  • Alisal Union School District (AUSD) met the challenge of providing remote instruction to its 8,150 students during the COVID-19 pandemic

  • Passed policies to protect students and all AUSD staff during the COVID-19 pandemic

  • Provided 2,070,161 nutritious meals to students during the COVID-19 pandemic

  • Returned students to full-time, in person instruction

  • Established the Alisal Virtual Academy, for parents who do not want their children to participate in in-person instruction

  • Saved taxpayers approximately $1 million by voting to refinance AUSD bonds

  • Ratified a resolution to build a new school at Alisal Elementary, and Fremont Elementary, using Measure M funds

  • Constructed a new two-story, 15 classrooms building at Fremont Elementary School with Measure M funds

  • Constructed a new two-story, 23 classrooms building at Alisal Elementary School with Measure M funds

  • Passed a resolution to build an Early Childhood Education Center at Dr. Oscar F. Loya Elementary School

  • Passed a resolution to build 50 to 60 new Kindergarten classrooms

  • Ratified a resolution to provide full day preschool, Transitional Kindergarten, and Kindergarten to students

  • Increased the salaries of all teachers and classified staff

  • Passed a resolution to provide all students with laptops (chromebooks)

  • Passed a resolution to provide 1,200 hotspots for student

  • Passed a resolution that will provide a touch screen, interactive television in all classrooms throughout the district. All interactive televisions are connected to the internet.

  • Passed a resolution to purchase 14 electric, zero-emission school buses

  • Passed a resolution to bring the Memorial Hospital Mobile Clinic to our schools. The mobile clinic provides free health care to our parents.

  • Voted to expand our Family Resource Center from one to three. The AUSD Family Resource Centers provide educational services, and basic necessities to families.

  • Ratified a contract with the Monterey College of Law to provide free legal services to our parents in the areas of immigration, restraining orders, social security, workers compensation, collections, unlawful detainers, and small claims

  • Voted to hire counselors at all twelve elementary schools to meet student’s social/emotional needs

  • Provided enrichment opportunities to student by contracting with a myriad of non-profits. The non-profits provided enrichment in dance, music, drama, the arts, CoderDojo, NASA Science, engineering, and math.

  • Passed a resolution to bring the California State University Monterey Bay, Teacher Residency Program to our district. This program will provide our schools with nine resident teachers for two years.

  • Ratified a contract with the National Compadre Network to bring the Cultura Cura Curriculum to the Alisal Union School District. Cultura Cura is a culturally based program that strengthens family, alleviates trauma, and equips students to succeed in school, and in life in general.

  • Passed a resolution to bring the Mindful Project to Monte Bella Elementary. This program provides mindfulness training to students, teachers, and parents.

  • Voted to align the school calendars of the Alisal Union School District and the Salinas union High School District

  • Approved a program to provide Indigenous Language Translation to parents

  • Directed staff to use approximately 15 million dollars provided by the State of California to develop innovative programs to alleviate learning loss caused by COVID-19
